The government has banned the use of the Prime Minister's image, including three-dimensional (3D) or any other form, on banners, festoons and billboards produced for government programmes.
The directive was issued in a circular by the Cabinet Division's General Branch on Sunday and took immediate effect.
According to the circular, publicity materials for government programmes should prioritise presenting necessary and relevant information in a balanced manner. It said banners, festoons and billboards must clearly communicate the programme's objectives, message and subject matter rather than focus on individuals.
The move followed an instruction from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman after he noticed banners and festoons displaying his photograph while travelling from his residence in Gulshan to the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday morning. The displays had been put up in connection with a programme organised by a government ministry.
After arriving at his office, the prime minister summoned the Cabinet Secretary and instructed him to issue the directive banning the use of his image on official publicity materials.
The Cabinet Division said the directive would be effective immediately.
