Saudi Arabia has formally invited Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to make an official visit to the Kingdom, signalling the continued efforts of both countries to strengthen their diplomatic and economic ties.
The invitation was delivered through a letter from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud. The Saudi ambassador to Bangladesh, Dr Abdullah Zafer H bin Abiyah, presented the letter to the Prime Minister during a meeting at the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday.
In response, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman extended an invitation to the Saudi Crown Prince to undertake an official visit to Bangladesh.
The development was announced by the foreign affairs adviser to the prime minister, Humaiun Kobir, during an emergency press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He said, "The dates for the Prime Minister’s visit to Saudi Arabia would be agreed upon through discussions between the two governments.”
According to the foreign affairs adviser, the meeting focused on issues of shared interest and explored ways to deepen cooperation between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia across a range of sectors.
Humaiun Kobir described Saudi Arabia as one of Bangladesh’s longstanding partners and said, "The Kingdom is interested in expanding trade and investment opportunities with Bangladesh", reflecting growing economic engagement between the two countries.
Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and Saudi Deputy Ambassador to Bangladesh Ibrahim Abdullah also attended the meeting.
The planned exchange of high-level visits is expected to provide further opportunities for Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia to strengthen bilateral relations, with both sides signalling a commitment to closer cooperation in trade, investment and other areas of mutual interest.
