Eight students were killed and several others injured after a landslide struck a madrasah in the Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, on Wednesday, following days of heavy rainfall.

The identities of the victims were not immediately available.

Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer Panna Akter said the incident occurred at around 3:00 pm in Sub-Block A-3 of the Kutupalong camp. A large section of mud collapsed onto the roof of the madrasah during persistent rain, trapping students inside.

Local residents recovered eight bodies from the debris and rescued several others. Five injured students were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The latest tragedy came three days after another series of rain-triggered landslides in Cox’s Bazar claimed the lives of nine people, including seven members of two families, in the early hours of July 6.

The latest deaths have raised the district's landslide death toll to 17 over the past three days, highlighting the growing risks posed by continuous monsoon rainfall in vulnerable hillside areas.
