Water levels in five rivers across Bangladesh rose above the danger level on Friday following incessant rainfall across the country and in upstream areas, according to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC).

As of 9:00 am, the Sangu River was flowing 95 cm above the danger level at the Bandarban point and 23 cm above the danger level at the Dohazari point in Chattogram, the FFWC said in a special flood forecast.

The Matamuhuri River was 47 cm above the danger level at Lama in Bandarban and 32 cm above the danger level at Chiringa in Cox's Bazar. The Kushiyara River was flowing 18 cm above the danger level at Markuli in Sunamganj and 10 cm above the danger level at Fenchuganj in Sylhet.

The Manu River rose 35 cm above the danger level at the Manu Rail Bridge point and 80 cm above the danger level at the Moulvibazar point. Meanwhile, the Khowai River was flowing 60 cm above the danger level at Balla in Habiganj.

The FFWC also reported that water levels at several monitoring stations were nearing the danger level. These include the Teesta River at Dalia in Nilphamari, Kaunia in Lalmonirhat and Tarapur in Gaibandha; the Kushiyara River at Sherpur in Moulvibazar; the Surma River at Kanaighat in Sylhet, Chhatak and Sunamganj; the Someshwari River at Kalmakanda in Netrakona; and the Choto Feni River at Companiganj in Noakhali.
