Three people have suffered burn injuries following an apparent gas pipeline explosion in Keraniganj, on the outskirts of Dhaka, according to hospital authorities and witnesses.
The incident took place on Friday night in the Boroitala area at the home of a local resident, Arif Mia, where repair work on a gas pipeline was reportedly underway.
Witnesses said the explosion occurred during the maintenance work, leaving three people injured. The victims were identified as Rakib, 14, Rajon, 25, and Sumon, 27.
The injured were taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka at around 5:30am on Saturday for treatment.
Shaon Bin Rahman, Resident Medical Officer at the institute, said Rakib sustained burns to around 17% of his body. The conditions of Rajon and Sumon were not immediately disclosed.
The cause of the explosion has not yet been officially confirmed, and authorities have not announced whether an investigation has been launched.
The incident adds to a series of gas-related accidents reported in Bangladesh in recent years, highlighting ongoing concerns over pipeline safety and maintenance.
