Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has rescued 122 families trapped by flash floods and landslides in the Kraikhyongpara area on the outskirts of Bandarban district town as relentless rainfall continues to affect parts of the hill district.
According to a BGB statement issued on Saturday, the evacuation began overnight and has continued despite difficult conditions, including heavy rain, waterlogged roads and strong flood currents.
The operation is being led under the supervision of Bandarban Sector Commander Colonel Rubayat Jamil, with rescue teams working to reach people stranded in some of the worst-affected areas.
Those rescued have been moved to temporary shelters established at Shaheed Mosharraf BGB School and Kraikhyongpara Government Primary School, where they are being provided with a safe place to stay while conditions remain hazardous.
BGB said relief assistance has also been delivered to the displaced families, including food, safe drinking water and emergency medicines.
Women, children, older people and those requiring medical attention have been given priority during the distribution of aid.
The force said its personnel were continuing to respond despite challenging weather conditions, with efforts focused on ensuring the safety of residents affected by the flooding and landslides.
In its statement, BGB said that alongside its border security responsibilities, it regularly supports emergency response operations during natural disasters, particularly in remote hill districts where access can become difficult.
It added that rescue efforts and humanitarian assistance would continue for as long as necessary, with teams remaining ready to help communities affected by floods, landslides and other emergencies.
