Govt to support flood victims until recovery: Amit

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit has said the government will continue to support people affected by flooding across the country, particularly in Chattogram and the Chattogram Hill Tracts, until the situation returns to normal.

The state minister made the remarks on Monday while visiting Keuchia Union in Satkania Upazila of Chattogram to assess the flood situation and distribute relief among affected families.

Conveying Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's greetings and sympathies to flood victims, he acknowledged the hardships they had faced over the past week and assured them of continued government assistance.

"We understand the immense hardships you have endured over the past week. On behalf of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, I assure you that this government will ensure food reaches every affected, distressed and needy person, Insha Allah," he said.

Anindya Islam said the government would continue providing emergency food assistance throughout the crisis and would launch rehabilitation programmes once floodwaters recede.

"The government of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will bear the cost of repairing damaged houses. We will also take steps to support farmers whose croplands have been devastated, fish farmers who have lost their ponds and livestock owners who have suffered losses so they can recover and return to normal life," he said.

Mohammad Jasim Uddin Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah, officials from the upazila and police administrations, public representatives, political leaders and local community leaders were present during the visit.
