Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, MP, has left Dhaka for an official visit to Qatar, where he is expected to hold high-level meetings and represent Bangladesh at a condolence engagement.
The speaker departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:20 am on Tuesday, beginning a visit that will conclude on 16 July.
During his stay, Hafiz Uddin Ahmad is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, as part of ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
On behalf of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister, the Speaker will also convey condolences and express sympathy following the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The late leader is widely recognised for his role in transforming Qatar into a modern state and strengthening its position on the global stage.
The visit is expected to reinforce the longstanding ties between Bangladesh and Qatar, which maintain cooperation across a range of sectors, including labour, trade and investment.
The speaker is due to return to Bangladesh on 16 July after completing his official programme in Qatar.
