Bay low forms as Bangladesh hoists Signal No. 3

A low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal, prompting the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) to advise all of the country's seaports to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 3.

In a weather warning issued on Wednesday, the BMD said the low-pressure area developed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining north Odisha–West Bengal coastal region.

The department warned that its influence could trigger squally weather over the seaports, the north Bay of Bengal and the adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

It instructed the seaports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to keep Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 hoisted until further notice.

The BMD also advised fishing boats and trawlers operating in the north Bay of Bengal to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
