President-elect of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Dr Khalilur Rahman, has continued a series of diplomatic consultations in New York by holding separate meetings with senior representatives from Slovakia, Georgia and North Macedonia.
Khalilur Rahman, who also serves as Bangladesh’s foreign minister, met Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Juraj Blanár, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia, and North Macedonian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Zoran Dimitrovski on Tuesday, according to Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The discussions focused on preparations for the upcoming 81st session of the UN General Assembly, with both sides exchanging views on the session’s priorities as well as wider issues of shared international interest.
During the meetings, the UNGA president-elect reiterated his commitment to leading a presidency that is transparent, inclusive and guided by the collective interests of UN member states.
He stressed the importance of maintaining close dialogue and strengthening cooperation with countries across the organisation throughout the General Assembly session.
His engagements form part of a broader programme of consultations with representatives from UN member states before the formal opening of the 81st session.
The meetings are intended to build consensus, encourage collaboration and ensure that member states have opportunities to contribute to the Assembly’s work from the outset.
As preparations continue, the Bangladeshi foreign minister has been reaching out to governments from different regions to discuss expectations for the coming session and to reinforce the importance of multilateral cooperation in addressing global challenges.
The consultations are expected to continue in the coming weeks as the president-elect works with member states to shape the agenda for the next session of the United Nations General Assembly.
