The Bangladesh Army has launched a massive national green initiative with an ambitious target to plant more than 1.1 million saplings across the country.
Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman officially inaugurated the Bangladesh Army Tree Plantation Campaign 2026 by planting a sapling at the Nirjhar Residential Area within Dhaka Cantonment.
During the launch event, the army chief spoke about the vital role that tree planting plays in environmental preservation. The commander highlighted that the extensive green drive is essential for maintaining ecological balance, combatting climate challenges, and building a more sustainable future for the nation.
According to an official media release from the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate, the initiative is being carried out under the national theme, "Let's decorate the country through tree plantation in Bangladesh first."
The military is executing the afforestation scheme simultaneously across all cantonments, defence officers' housing scheme areas, and the Jalsiri Housing Project sites nationwide.
The extensive campaign focuses on selecting diverse and environmentally beneficial varieties of flora. Military units will plant a combination of fruit-bearing trees, timber woods, medicinal plants, and various ornamental shrubs in optimal spaces across all service locations.
The Inter Services Public Relations Directorate confirmed that the military green drive will remain highly active throughout the summer, with planting activities scheduled to run until the final week of September 2026.
