Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir has identified cybercrime, online gambling, phishing scams and the spread of false information on social media as some of the most significant challenges facing law enforcement in Bangladesh.
Speaking at the graduation parade of the 42nd Cadet Sub-Inspector (SI) batch at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi, on Thursday, the police chief said modern policing requires officers to develop strong professional skills to respond effectively to increasingly sophisticated forms of crime.
He encouraged the newly commissioned officers to build expertise in emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence and digital forensics, while keeping pace with the changing nature of criminal activity.
He said professional competence would play a vital role in tackling technology-driven offences and ensuring effective investigations.
The IGP also reminded the graduates of their responsibility to carry out investigations fairly and independently.
He stated maintaining public safety should always be free from fear, favour or outside influence, adding that integrity, transparency and accountability must remain central to the work of the Bangladesh Police.
Addressing the new officers, Ali Hossain urged them to perform their duties with honesty and dedication while providing support to innocent and vulnerable members of society.
He added that public trust depends on ethical policing and a commitment to serving communities with professionalism.
Earlier in the ceremony, the IGP inspected the parade and took the salute before presenting awards to the highest-performing cadets.
A total of 500 trainee cadet sub-inspectors completed the programme, including 19 women and 481 men. The training course began in July 2025 with an initial intake of 527 trainees, preparing recruits for operational policing responsibilities across the country.
The graduation marks the latest addition to Bangladesh Police’s frontline workforce as the force seeks to strengthen its ability to respond to both conventional crimes and rapidly evolving digital threats.
