The country’s economic reforms will be carried out gradually rather than all at once, and will move forward on the priorities and actual needs of the elected government. Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury shared the news with journalists on Thursday, 16 July, after a meeting with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation at the Ministry of Finance.
Speaking about the meeting, the Finance Minister explained that discussions with the IMF focused on the core foundation of the upcoming programme. He noted that future plans will directly build on the key policy issues that both sides had previously identified.
Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury emphasised that all economic reform work will be carried out with deep respect for the decisions and policies of the elected government. Instead of rushing into massive changes, these steps will be implemented in phases according to what the country needs most.
He added that he would make changes as and when they were required. Some sectors have already seen visible changes, and the remaining reforms will be completed gradually, depending on the actual situation.
In conclusion, the Finance Minister made it clear that economic reform is not a one-time task. The activities will move forward smoothly by balancing the country’s situation, the government’s top priorities, and the welfare of the people.
