Members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have arrested a man in Dhaka over the alleged fraudulent online sale of tickets for Pakistani singer Atif Aslam's upcoming concert.
The suspect, identified as Md Bakhtiar Abid Khan, 21, was arrested during a raid in Chowdhuripara, Malibagh, on Friday, according to a CID press release issued on Saturday. Investigators also seized an iPhone during the operation.
The CID said Bakhtiar was the administrator of the Facebook group Bangladesh Concert & Event Connects (BCEC), where misleading posts were allegedly used to advertise and sell tickets for the concert.
Atif Aslam is scheduled to perform on 24 July at the 300 Feet Cricketers Academy in Purbachal. The event is being organised by Event Sajai and Main Stage Inc, which began promoting ticket sales through their official Facebook page on 8 July after signing an agreement with GetMyTicket.live.
The investigation began after organiser Nisha Mahbuba Salam filed a complaint. According to the complaint, the organisers discovered multiple posts in the BCEC Facebook group using images of tickets from a previously cancelled concert to promote and sell tickets for the upcoming event.
The complaint alleges that when the organisers asked the group's administrator to remove the posts, he demanded Tk 100,000. It further claims he threatened to continue approving similar posts and cause financial losses and reputational damage to Event Sajai and Main Stage Inc if the payment was not made.
A case has been filed with Paltan Police Station under the Cyber Security Act, 2026.
During preliminary questioning, the suspect admitted that he administered the BCEC Facebook group and operated the Facebook account under the name "Ak Abid Khan", the CID said.
