Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kayser Kamal said Bangladesh must invest more in technology-based education and practical training to help young people develop the skills needed for employment in an increasingly competitive job market.
Speaking at the inauguration of the privately established Skill Institute of Technology (Skill IT) in Bagerhat on Saturday, he said, "Technical education and vocational training would be essential in preparing the country’s workforce for future opportunities both at home and overseas.”
The Deputy Speaker formally opened the institute by unveiling its foundation plaque during a ceremony held at the Latif Master Foundation premises.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, the deputy speaker said, "Initiatives led by the private sector could play an important role in supporting the country’s efforts to build a skilled workforce.”
He added that institutions offering modern technology training, language education and practical job skills would help improve employment prospects for young Bangladeshis while contributing to national economic development.
He also stated, "The purpose of politics should be to improve people’s lives," adding that education and technical training remain vital in producing capable and skilled professionals.
According to him, creating employment opportunities through skills-based learning would strengthen the economy while bringing wider social benefits.
Kayser Kamal also highlighted the importance of encouraging young people to engage in productive activities.
He said again that access to modern technology, innovation and vocational training could help keep them away from drug abuse and other social problems, while increasing their chances of finding work in Bangladesh and abroad.
During the event, he paid tribute to the late Abdul Latif Master, describing him as a dedicated educator whose contribution helped expand educational opportunities across the region.
Expressing confidence in the new institute, he said, "It could make a meaningful contribution to the country’s economic and social progress by providing scholarships, internationally recognised training programmes and practical skills development.”
Latif Master Foundation Chairman CPA Md Rafiqul Islam, widely known as Jaglu, said Skill IT would begin operations by offering training in nine vocational fields. These include information technology, graphic design, Korean and Japanese language courses, sewing, driving and several other employment-focused disciplines.
He said each trade would enrol up to 90 trainees through courses lasting three or six months. Participants would receive training allowances, certificates from government-approved institutions and practical workplace experience designed to improve their chances of securing jobs in Bangladesh and overseas.
Following the inauguration ceremony, the Deputy Speaker distributed 2,000 fruit tree saplings among local residents before attending a meeting with members of the Bagerhat Bar Association and legal professionals practising in the district.
The programme was chaired by former secretary Dr Md Faridul Islam and attended by District Council Administrator Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain; BNP Central Executive Committee member Ayesha Siddika Mani; Bagerhat District BNP Convener Engineer ATM Akram Hossain Talim; Member Secretary Mozaffar Rahman Alam; former District and Sessions Judge Ikhtiar Uddin; Principal Jahangir Alam; and other local representatives.
