Govt will ensure full support for flood victims: Salauddin

The government has pledged a broad package of assistance for communities affected by the recent floods, promising support not only for families who lost their homes but also for farmers, fish farmers and livestock owners whose livelihoods have been damaged.

Speaking at a ceremony in Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Saturday, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the government remained committed to helping people recover from the disaster and to restoring normal life as quickly as possible.

Addressing the handover of newly built homes for flood-affected families, he stated that protecting people’s welfare remains the central objective of the government’s policies.

“The main goal of the government’s politics is to ensure the welfare of the people. As a government elected by the people’s votes, it is our responsibility and commitment to stand by the people in any danger or adversity,” he remarked.

The minister mentioned that government agencies were working under the principle of “Bangladesh First, People Before Power”, stressing that relief efforts would go beyond rebuilding damaged homes.

He continued that farmers whose seedbeds, crops or agricultural land had been affected by the floods would receive essential agricultural inputs, including seeds and fertilisers, to help restart production.

Salahuddin also said that authorities would assess losses in the fisheries and livestock sectors before providing appropriate assistance to those affected.

Alongside financial and material support, the government plans to repair public infrastructure damaged by the floods.

The minister noted that restoring schools, colleges, madrasahs and roads would be a priority to help communities return to normal as soon as possible.

He added that the administration would continue its disaster response efforts while ensuring that affected communities across the country receive the support they need during the recovery process.

The home minister also sought public support for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, saying the government was pursuing policies aimed at improving public welfare, reducing hardship for ordinary citizens and making government services more accessible.

During the programme, organised by a private organisation, 20 families who were left homeless by the floods received newly built houses. Each household was also provided with essential items, including a bed, as part of the assistance initiative.
