The Bangladesh Armed Forces and the United States Army will begin their annual bilateral military training event, "Tiger Lightning 26," on Sunday. The joint initiative will bring together more than 160 service members from both nations to participate in the collaborative drills.
According to an official press release distributed by the United States Embassy in Dhaka, the primary objective of the exercise is to bolster mutual collaboration. The training programme is specifically designed to enhance the shared operational capabilities of the two forces when deployed in real-world tactical environments.
The curriculum for "Tiger Lightning 26" will include specialised training modules centred on jungle warfare operations, counter-terrorism tactics, and tactical combat casualty care. These practical sessions will provide personnel from both defence forces with a valuable opportunity to evaluate and better understand each other's distinct field capabilities.
This long-running bilateral drill aligns directly with the broader Theatre Army Campaign Plan overseen by the United States Army Pacific. The initiative supports regional security cooperation objectives aimed at reinforcing professional military relationships, elevating combat readiness, and establishing seamless field interoperability between the United States Army and the Bangladesh Army.
Initially launched in 2017, the Tiger Lightning framework has served as a foundational element of defence ties between the two global partners. While the collaborative manoeuvres were temporarily paused due to safety restrictions during the global pandemic, the training has returned as a regular fixture on the bilateral calendar over the past five years.
Organisers confirmed that this iteration will split its time between analytical classroom instruction and active field environments. The entire multilateral program will culminate in a comprehensive, real-time field training exercise designed to test the joint operational units under simulated combat stress.
