Relief aid sent to seven flood-hit districts in Bangladesh

The government has sent emergency cash and food to seven districts across Bangladesh that have been badly hit by heavy rain, floods, and landslides. Rescue and relief teams are working continuously in these areas to help families in need.

The floods have deeply affected the districts of Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj. According to the latest official report, the high water has flooded 56 upazilas (sub-districts) and hundreds of small villages. Sadly, the disaster has claimed 59 lives and injured 40 people.

To keep displaced families safe, the government has set up 73 emergency shelter centres, where nearly 300 people are currently staying.

A flood report from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief shows that since 7 July, the government has given out 51.5 million Taka in cash and 9,050 tonnes of rice. They have also provided 4,200 bundles of tin roofing sheets and another 12.6 million Taka in building grants to help people fix their damaged homes.

Out of this aid, the seven worst-hit districts received 23 million Taka in cash and 3,350 tonnes of rice. Because heavy rain has affected other areas too, the government sent the remaining 28.5 million Taka and 5,700 tonnes of rice to the country’s other 57 districts to make sure they are prepared.
