A fresh environmental initiative designed to inspire the younger generation to protect nature has officially launched in the central district of Manikganj.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam inaugurated the scheme, titled "One Child, One Tree," during a special event at Nabagram Government Primary School. The primary objective of the campaign is to raise environmental awareness among schoolchildren and highlight tree planting as a shared public duty.

Speaking as the main guest at the opening ceremony, Afroza Khanam explained that the project goes far beyond the simple act of putting saplings into the ground. The minister stated that the core goal is to teach children to take responsibility for the natural world around them.

The minister remarked that the gathering represents a collective promise to build a healthier ecosystem for the future. By giving a tree to a child, the state hopes to cultivate a better tomorrow through sustainable habits.

The current administration, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, remains focused on creating a modern and eco-friendly nation. Afroza Khanam emphasised that true progress involves more than just constructing infrastructure such as bridges, roads, and high-rise buildings.

The minister argued that national development only carries real meaning when the environment is fully protected, habitats remain safe, and the public stays mindful of their civic duties. Therefore, nurturing a tree is framed as a long-term gift to coming generations.

During the event, Afroza Khanam thanked the local residents of Manikganj for their ongoing trust and called for their continued support to achieve the development goals of the district.

Following the speeches, the minister officially started the campaign by planting a tree alongside local administrators, teachers, and school children. The local government office in Manikganj Sadar organised the launch event, which attracted a large crowd of district officials and community leaders.
