The head of the Bangladesh police force has travelled to Thailand to participate in an international security conference aimed at dismantling cross-border criminal networks.
Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir departed from Dhaka on Sunday afternoon. The police chief is attending a two-day regional summit in Bangkok that focuses on the rising threat of cyber scam centres and organised international crime.
The American Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Royal Thai Police are jointly running the conference, which runs from 20 to 21 July.
The main goals of the meeting are to improve cross-border police coordination, create unified regional tactics, and build joint operations. Law enforcement agencies are facing significant challenges from sophisticated scam compounds operating across the Asia-Pacific region.
A large gathering of police chiefs, intelligence directors, and senior law enforcement managers from various Asia-Pacific nations will take part in the strategy sessions.
A statement issued by the police headquarters confirmed that the Bangladeshi police chief will also take part in a private bilateral meeting with the head of the Royal Thai Police during the trip. The two commanders will focus on security matters of mutual interest to both countries.
The Inspector General of Police is expected to complete the official visit and fly back to Bangladesh on 22 July.
