Bangladesh's measles outbreak continued to spread as five more children died with measles-like symptoms and 1,069 new infections were reported across the country in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In a statement issued on Monday, the DGHS said no child was confirmed to have died from measles during the reporting period. However, five deaths involving children with measles-like symptoms were recorded.
Since 15 March, 698 children have died with measles-like symptoms, while 95 deaths have been confirmed as caused by measles. The combined death toll from confirmed measles and suspected measles-related cases has now reached 793.
The DGHS also reported that 147 children were newly confirmed with measles over the past 24 hours, while 922 others were diagnosed with measles-like symptoms, bringing the total number of new reported cases during the period to 1,069.
According to the latest figures, 101,026 suspected measles patients have been admitted to hospitals nationwide between 15 March and 20 July. Of them, 97,532 have recovered and been discharged.
