Teachers, staff and members of Milestone School and College gathered on Tuesday to mark the devastating fighter jet crash on 21 July 2025, which claimed dozens of lives and left a lasting impact on the institution and the wider community.
A special prayer and doa mahfil was held at the school’s Diabari campus to honour the memory of the students, teachers, parents and employees who died in the tragedy. The ceremony also included the laying of floral tributes, as those attending paused to remember colleagues, classmates and loved ones lost in the disaster.
Teachers from both the school and college sections, alongside administrative staff and other employees, took part in the commemoration. The event reflected a shared sense of remembrance for members of the institution whose absence continues to be deeply felt across classrooms and throughout the campus.
The crash remains one of the most tragic incidents in the school’s history, prompting widespread public grief and renewed discussions about aviation safety and measures to reduce the risk of similar accidents in the future.
The accident occurred on 21 July, 2025, when an FT-7 BGI fighter aircraft crashed into the Milestone School and College campus in Uttara, Dhaka.
According to official accounts, at least 36 people were killed, including 28 students, making it one of the country’s deadliest aviation-related disasters.
A government-appointed investigation committee later examined the circumstances surrounding the crash. Its findings were submitted on 5 November 2025 to the then chief adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus.
One year after the tragedy, the institution continues to honour those who lost their lives, with Tuesday’s memorial serving as a moment of reflection for a community still living with the consequences of the disaster.
