A court in Dhaka has granted bail to content creator Tawhid Afridi in a fraud and criminal breach of trust case, removing what his lawyer described as the final legal obstacle to his release.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam approved the bail petition on Tuesday after hearing arguments presented by Afridi’s lawyer, Iqbal Mahmud Sovon.
Speaking after the hearing, Sovon said his client had been facing three separate cases. He said the High Court had already granted bail in two of them, while Tuesday’s order cleared the remaining case, paving the way for Afridi’s release.
On 24 August 2025, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Afridi, the son of MyTV Chairman Nasir Uddin Sathi, in Barishal. Following his arrest, he was found to be involved in several other cases.
Court records show that on 11 June 2026, Wari Police Sub-Inspector Md Mahfuzur Rahman, who is investigating the case, sought permission to formally show Afridi as arrested in the Wari Police Station case. The court approved that request on 15 June.
The case stems from allegations made by Syeda Ashfah Toaha Dyuti, who said she was approached through WhatsApp on 13 January 2025 by a woman identifying herself as Fatema Oishi with an offer of freelance work.
According to the investigation, Dyuti was initially asked to post Google reviews before being instructed to create a Telegram account. She later received Tk 300 after completing the first assignment.
Investigators said another individual, identifying herself as Lisa, subsequently added Dyuti to a Telegram group where members regularly shared screenshots appearing to show profits earned from transferring money.
Police allege these transactions were used to build trust. Dyuti first transferred Tk 2,000 to a bKash account and later received Tk 2,800, including the promised return. She was then paid a further Tk 5,300 before being invited to another Telegram group offering additional tasks.
Investigators believe the suspects gradually convinced her to transfer larger amounts of money, ultimately defrauding her of Tk 235,000.
Following the alleged scam, Dyuti filed a case with Wari Police Station in January 2025 against unidentified individuals.
In a related development, Afridi’s father, Nasir Uddin Sathi, was arrested by police in Gulshan on 17 August 2025 and was later questioned while in police custody.
The latest court order means Afridi has now secured bail in all three cases his lawyer said he had been facing, although any release remains subject to the completion of the required legal procedures.
