Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled a local leader in Faridpur after an alleged obscene video involving him circulated widely and virally on social media.

Md Obaidur Rahman, who served as the organising secretary of the BNP’s Aliabad union unit in Faridpur Sadar upazila, has been removed from both his party position and primary membership following disciplinary action by the district committee.

The decision was confirmed in a letter issued on Thursday night and signed by Faridpur district BNP Convener Advocate Syed Modarres Ali Isa and Member Secretary AKM Kibria Swapon.

According to the letter, the party took action after concluding that Obaidur had been involved in conduct it described as amounting to moral turpitude.

The notice stated that the allegations were considered serious enough to issue his immediate expulsion from the organisation.

Speaking about the decision, Advocate Syed Modarres Ali Isa said, "The district BNP reached the conclusion during a meeting held on Thursday night.”

He also said, "Party leaders reviewed the allegations and decided to expel Obaidur after determining that they were substantiated.”

The controversy follows the circulation of a video, reportedly lasting 5 minutes and 37 seconds, which allegedly shows the local BNP leader involved in adultery with a woman.

The footage spread rapidly across several social media platforms, prompting widespread public discussion.
