Police have recovered the body of a tea seller bearing multiple injury marks in Kushtia, launching an investigation into what appears to be a suspected killing.
The deceased was identified as Samirul Shah, 60, the son of the late Bisharad Shah. Originally from Gangni upazila in neighbouring Meherpur district, he had been living with his family in the Tekala Paschimpara area for several years.
According to police, local residents discovered the body at around 6:30am on Friday. It was found lying on a bamboo structure in a field beside the Bangari–Dharmadaha road in the Dharmadaha area of Adabaria union under Daulatpur upazila. They immediately alerted the authorities.
A team from Tekala Police Camp arrived at the scene and recovered the body for further examination.
Investigating officers said, "The victim had sustained multiple injuries caused by a sharp weapon, with visible wounds on his face and other parts of his body.”
Officer-in-Charge of Daulatpur Police Station Khaledur Rahman said, "The body had been sent to Kushtia General Hospital for a post-mortem examination to help determine the exact cause of death.”
Police have begun an investigation into the incident and are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.
“We are trying to identify and arrest those responsible,” the officer said.
No arrests had been reported by Friday, and the motive behind the suspected murder remains unclear.
