President Mohammed Shahabuddin has resigned from office, bringing an end to widespread speculation over his political future.
On Friday, the Public Relations Sub-Branch-1 of the Parliament Secretariat confirmed the development through a press release.
According to the statement, Speaker of Parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmad has called a press conference at 5pm at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, where he is expected to formally announce that the president’s resignation has been accepted.
The announcement marks a significant political development for Bangladesh, as attention now turns to the constitutional process that will follow the president’s departure from office.
The Parliament Secretariat did not immediately provide further details on the reasons behind the resignation or the next steps regarding the presidency.
More information is expected to emerge after the Speaker’s scheduled briefing later on Friday.
