Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) says it has prevented two alleged attempts by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push a total of 15 people into Bangladesh through border points in Dinajpur and Jhenaidah.
The incidents took place in the early hours of Saturday, prompting the BGB to maintain heightened vigilance along both stretches of the frontier.
According to BGB officials, the first incident occurred at the Khiar Mahmudpur border in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur, where the BSF allegedly attempted to send nine people across the border at around 4:00 am.
BGB personnel, supported by local residents, intervened before the group could enter Bangladesh. The nine people, comprising eight women and one transgender person, remain in the border’s no-man’s land.
Subedar Pia Alam, company commander of the Bhaigar BGB Camp, said the group was stopped after BGB members and local residents responded to the attempted crossing.
He said they are currently staying at the zero line between the two countries.
In a separate incident, the BGB said it prevented another alleged push-in involving six people through the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah.
According to a statement issued by Munshi Imdadur Rahman, assistant director of the Khalishpur 58 BGB Battalion, members of the Singamora 59 BSF allegedly attempted to push four men and two women into Bangladesh through a gate near border pillar 55/MP at about 5:30am.
The BGB added that its personnel detected the movement and prevented the group from entering Bangladeshi territory.
Officials said the six individuals are now staying around 30 yards inside Indian territory near the zero line. The BGB added that it has informed the BSF about the incident.
The latest developments come amid continued sensitivity along sections of the Bangladesh-India border, where the two border forces regularly coordinate on security and cross-border issues. At the time of publication, neither the BSF nor the Indian authorities had publicly responded to the BGB’s allegations.
