Prime Minister Tarique Rahman joined thousands of young spectators and young athletes on Monday for the grand finale of the Notun Kuri Sports tournament at the Bangladesh Army Stadium.
The nationwide event took place under the theme of promoting professional career pathways in sports to ensure long-term family security for young talent.
Crowds in the stadium welcomed the arrival of the premier, who walked across the venue to greet young participants and supporters directly.
More than 8,000 school students attended the closing event, cheering as the premier toured the ground and spoke with participants.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque accompanied the premier during the venue visit.
Organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the grassroots tournament began on 2 May to identify hidden talent among children aged 12 to 14.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had officially launched the sporting initiative earlier this year at Sylhet District Stadium.
Organisers confirmed that around 170,000 young athletes took part in regional qualifiers across all districts in eight different disciplines.
The sports included football, cricket, kabaddi, athletics, badminton, chess, swimming, and martial arts, with top performers qualifying for finals in Dhaka.
The closing ceremony featured the boys' and girls' 100-metre sprint finals alongside regional football championship matches.
In the boys' football final, Sylhet Region secured victory over Mymensingh Region with a two-nil win.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman concluded the event by presenting trophies and awards to the winning athletes during the official presentation ceremony.
