LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday stressed the need to create a social movement against drug abuse across the country.

“We want to build a social movement against drug abuse involving people of all views, regardless of their party affiliation,” he said.

Fakhrul, also the BNP secretary general, made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at an anti-drug meeting here.

He also said, "If we can eradicate drug abuse, we will solve many problems in society."

“The incumbent BNP government is making all-out efforts to eradicate drug abuse from the country,” he added.

The Thakurgaon district administration organised the meeting in the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room this morning.

With Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rafiqul Huq in the chair, the meeting was attended, among others, by Superintendent of Police Belal Hossain; 50 BGB Commander Lt Col. Akhlaq Hossain; and Thakurgaon District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin.
