Bangladesh Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has issued a stern warning against corruption and political middlemen in the distribution of family welfare cards provided by the state.
Speaking at a public event in Gournadi, Barishal, Swapon emphasised that the government will take immediate and firm action against anyone found engaging in irregularities or fraudulent practices during the distribution process.
Swapon stated that middle agents and brokers will not be permitted to interfere with the aid initiative, which is designed to deliver direct support to eligible households across the nation.
The minister delivered his remarks while launching a tree plantation drive along both banks of the Swanirbhar Canal in Kutubpur. The canal holds political significance in the region, as Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman originally excavated it during a national development drive.
Following the ceremonial launch, Swapon addressed a local gathering that Krishak Dal Member Secretary Abul Kalam Azad chaired. The meeting brought together several political figures, including Barishal District BNP General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Khan Mukul and local community organisers.
Alongside his warning regarding public welfare, Swapon urged citizens and local leaders to actively participate in tree planting campaigns to protect the environment and support long-term ecological balance.
Following the addresses, attending guests and local activists planted various species of tree saplings along the canal banks to mark the start of the environmental campaign.
