Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged Japan to hire more skilled workers from Bangladesh while calling for deeper cooperation in technical training, professional development, and foreign direct investment.
The request came during a high-level meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka, where Japanese Prime Minister Special Advisor Uno Yoshimasa paid an official courtesy visit.
Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Hossain Shadhin confirmed that both parties discussed strategies to strengthen bilateral ties and elevate the strategic relationship between the two nations.
During the discussions, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman pointed out opportunities for recruitment across specific sectors, particularly healthcare, agriculture, and commercial driving. He urged Japanese authorities to expand local language training initiatives so candidates can meet the requirements of the Japanese job market.
The prime minister also invited Japanese firms to expand their industrial footprint in Bangladesh, assuring full government assistance if Tokyo considers developing another dedicated industrial facility similar to the existing park at Araihazar in Narayanganj.
Both sides reviewed progress on major infrastructure initiatives financed through Japanese partnerships, including the upcoming opening of the Third Terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on 16 December, alongside ongoing urban railway development projects.
The bilateral meeting was attended by senior cabinet officials, including Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, and representatives from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, as well as Japanese Ambassador Saida Shinichi.
