It won't take a second to take to the streets if the formulation of the new constitution is obstructed, said Akhtar Hossain, member secretary of the National Citizens Party-NCP.
He said this at a discussion meeting titled 'Constituent Assembly Elections to Implement the July Charter' at Bangla Motor in the capital on Saturday.
Akhtar Hossain said that we have not received the final opinion on the July Charter yet. The Yunus government has bypassed this issue.
Stating that 20 issues have been discussed in the commission so far, he said, "When we started the second round of meetings in the Consensus Commission, we noticed the commission's strong efforts to ensure that the reform proposals are accepted exactly as presented by the commission and that a consensus is formed among the political parties. But whenever the issue of implementing the reform proposals is raised, the commission seems to have become paralyzed under whose pressure.
He further said, on behalf of the political parties present in the last day's discussion, we all demanded that the Commission discuss the implementation of the July Charter with the participation of political parties. We said there that decisions should not be taken with just one party, without discussing with the political parties.
At that time, NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari said that the only solution to the current crisis is the Constituent Assembly elections. The July Declaration should have been made with the people, not the political parties.
On the other hand, NCP's southern chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah criticized the interim government's meeting with Tarique Rahman during his visit to London.
