Thousands of leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have begun massive campaigns in favour of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in Bogura and Dinajpur ahead of the upcoming national elections. The campaigns include distributing leaflets seeking votes for 'Sheaf of Paddy', the symbol of the party.

In Bogura, the Gabtali Poura unit of BNP, under the leadership of District BNP Human Rights Affairs Secretary and former mayor Saiful Islam, organised a huge procession starting from the central Shaheed Minar premises and parading through various streets of the municipality. Poura BNP President Kayeduzzoha Tipu, General Secretary Abdur Rahim Pintu, former Upazila BNP convener Abul Hossain Molla, former Poura BNP convener Dr Sabed Ali, UP Chairman Abdul Wahab, and Tariqul Islam were among those present.

The leaders said Khaleda Zia, nominated to contest from Dinajpur-1, Bogura-7, and Feni-1 constituencies, would contest from Bogura-7. They vowed to secure a landslide victory in the constituency, which is also the birthplace of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. They also noted that such mass campaigns would continue in full swing until the next election to spread the BNP’s message to every household.

Meanwhile, in Dinajpur, BNP leaders and activists held a joyous procession in Dinajpur Sadar after Khaleda Zia was declared the candidate for the Dinajpur Sadar-3 constituency. There was visible excitement and joy among all sections of people, including BNP leaders, activists, and supporters.

Former president of the district unit of Chhatra Dal, Mustafa Kamal Milon, said that for the last fifteen and a half years, BNP and its affiliated organisations could not live properly in their homes due to false cases. He added, “I was fed up with the oppression, torture, and atrocities of the fascist Awami League on BNP leaders and activists. Khaleda Zia is the daughter of Dinajpur. Today, the common people are happy and overwhelmed with joy after the announcement of Begum Khaleda Zia as a candidate.”

District BNP President Advocate Md Mofazzal Hossain Dulal welcomed the nomination, saying, “This is good news for the people of Dinajpur after a long time.” A large number of leaders, activists, supporters, and common people participated in the procession.
