The Election Commission (EC) has issued separate public notices regarding the registration of three new political parties, including the National Citizen Party (NCP).
The notifications, signed by EC Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, were released on Tuesday evening.
Along with the NCP, the other two parties under consideration for registration are the Socialist Party of Bangladesh-Marxist and the Bangladesh Aam Jonogon Party - BAJP.
Separate notifications have been issued for each of these parties, allocating their respective electoral symbols – “Shapla Koli” for NCP, “Kaanchi” for the Socialist Party of Bangladesh-Marxist, and “Handshake” for the BAJP.
The EC’s notice on NCP stated that Convener Md Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhter Hossen have submitted an application seeking registration as a political party with the address Rupayan Trade Center (2nd Floor), 114 Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Bangla Motor, Dhaka-1205.
The NCP’s preferred symbol is ‘Shapla Koli”, it also said.
The notice further stated that if anyone has objections to the registration of the said political party, they are requested to inform the EC in writing by November 12, providing reasons and supporting documents.
Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed told reporters at the Election Bhaban at Agargaon, Dhaka, that the Commission has decided that these three parties are eligible for registration as political parties.
“The deadline for claims and objections is set for November 12. The final decision will be made after reviewing the information received within the stipulated time. The claims and objections will be resolved, and the registration certificates will then be issued,” he continued.
He further added that all three parties have met the EC’s registration conditions.
Out of 143 parties that applied for registration within the stipulated period, the EC conducted field investigations into 22 parties after an initial scrutiny.
Based on the findings, the Commission has decided to grant registration to the NCP, the Socialist Party of Bangladesh-Marxist and Bangladesh Aam Jonogon Party - BAJP.
