ABM Mosharraf Hossain, Training Affairs Secretary of the BNP’s central executive committee, said Friday that the party will take steps to make Payra Port economically viable and turn Kuakata into a major tourism hub if voted to power.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Television Journalists Forum office in Kalapara, Hossain criticized the current administration for failing to make Payra Port efficient. “No required measure was taken to make Payra Port economically efficient after establishing it at Kalapara. BNP will take necessary initiatives to this end,” he said.

He added that currently only coal is imported through the port, and that investment and employment opportunities would have expanded had an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) been established in the area.

On tourism, Hossain said Kuakata has seen no planned investment from the tourism corporation. “If BNP is voted to power, it will transform Kuakata into a tourist hub with planned investment. Gas connections will be provided to support industries there,” he said.

The event was presided over by Television Journalists Forum Convenor Mohsin Parvez and attended by Kalapara Upazila BNP President Hazi Humayun Sikder, Poura BNP President Gazi Md Faruk, local BNP leaders, activists, and members of the Television Journalists Forum.
