BNP Joint Secretary General Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee on Saturday claimed that hidden political forces are behind the recent calls for lockdowns and acts of violence, aiming to disrupt the upcoming national election.

Addressing a courtyard meeting with women voters in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila, Anee said certain quarters were attempting to destabilise the country through digital deception and sabotage, identical to previous hartals and blockades.

He referred to the recent arrest of an Islami Chhatra Shibir activist near the office of the newly formed NCP in Dhaka, terming it as part of a wider conspiracy to hinder the election process.

Anee urged Islamic political groups to engage in transparent and responsible politics and to refrain from spreading misinformation or distortion, emphasising the importance of public welfare in political activities.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Vice-President Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy, district BNP leaders Hafizur Rahman, Nijam Uddin Bhuiyan, Chandraganj Thana BNP President Belal Hossain, General Secretary M. Yusuf Bhuiyan, District Mahila Dal President Sabera Anwar, General Secretary Fatema Akhter Shimu, and other local leaders.
