BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday described the verdict against deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the “burial of all forms of dictatorship” in Bangladesh.
He made the statement on his verified Facebook page, amid the International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) sentencing Sheikh Hasina and two others to death for crimes against humanity during the July–August 2024 uprising, which resulted in over 1,000 deaths.
The court also sentenced former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Kamal to death, while former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who testified as a witness, was sentenced to five years in prison. The tribunal ordered the confiscation of Sheikh Hasina’s and Kamal’s properties in favour of the state.
