BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has warned that if democracy is not restored after the July Uprising, fascism may return.
“Those who are attempting to commercialise the spirit of the July Uprising must learn a lesson from the Awami League,” he stated as the keynote speaker at a rally organised by Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal at the Central Shaheed Minar.
Salahuddin Ahmed insisted that the Awami League was never a political party. “The Awami League was not a political party; it was a mafia organisation. “The League’s politics must be buried,” he declared.
The top BNP leader went on to say, “The activities of any other party in democratic practice cannot be impeded.” We must adopt a political practice that reflects the aspirations of the July martyrs.
In response to Sheikh Hasina’s recent death sentence, he stated, “Fascist Sheikh Hasina’s verdict was delivered taking into account the aspirations of the country’s people and international humanitarian considerations. This decision will also be executed.
The Standing Committee Member warned that anyone who becomes a fascist would face the same fate. He questioned how unity could be reached with other parties when one of the eight took part in the ‘dummy’ election. He advised the Jamaat-e-Islami not to deceive the public with ambiguous figures and urged them to stand in solidarity with popular aspirations.
He also questioned how those who resisted the ambitions of 1947 and 1971 could now meet the people’s wishes.
