Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has vowed to eliminate corruption from the country if his party assumes power and said that many political parties lack courage and feel shy to loudly make such a statement.
“ Some parties are unable to say they want to establish a corruption-free Bangladesh, as they would get laughs and people would also laugh to hear such an announcement from them.” The Jamaat Chief made the remarks while addressing the Election Representatives Conference of the Chattogram region, held at the GEC Convention Hall in the city on Saturday night, as chief guest.
Presided over by city Jamaat Ameer Md Nazrul Islam and conducted by secretary Principal Md Nurul Amin, the meeting was addressed, among others, by central assistant secretary general Moulana Mohammad Shah Jahan, central and local leaders Prof. Ahsan Ullah, former lawmaker Shah Jahan Chowdhury, Principal Amiruzzaman, Prof. Nurul Amin Chowdhury, Anowarul Alam Chowdhury, Alauddin Sikder, Syed Abul Momen, Abdus Salam Azad, Prof Moulana Abdul Alim and Advocate Farid Uddin Chowdhury.
Addressing the meeting, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said Jamaat will not allow any quarter to practise the old ill-culture of casting the votes of others forcibly along with their own as per his wish and will.
He said his party would continue to fight in favour of and stand by oppressed people and fight against oppressors. “We do not allow any quarter or individual this time to be an oppressor,” he added.
Jamaat Ameer stated that the last three parliamentary elections denied the country's citizens the opportunity to exercise their voting rights. Many youth did not have the opportunity to cast votes even once in their entire lives, he said, adding that they are eagerly waiting to cast votes in the next election.
“So, do not try to snatch their voting rights. If they attempt to snatch their voting rights, the consequences for them will also be bitter. Everybody should take a lesson from the past,” he stated.
He said those who do not want to bring back past rotten politics will cast their vote in favour of ‘yes’ during referendum whereas who will cast “no” vote virtually they want to re-establish nasty politics.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman said all Islamic parties and patriotic people are now united to establish an extortion and corruption-free country if they achieve the people’s mandate in the next polls.
“If we assume power and form government, ministers and parliament members will not take government plot or home, tax-free vehicle and lead lavish life” he said.
