BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia remains in critical condition at the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. The party earlier stated that her health had deteriorated significantly, deepening public concern across the country.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi briefed reporters on her latest condition during an emergency press conference on Sunday at the party’s central office in Naya Paltan.

Rizvi said there has been no improvement in Khaleda Zia’s condition and that she continues to remain in a “highly complicated” state. Regarding potential overseas treatment, he said the medical board supervising her care has not yet given any recommendation, adding that no decision can be taken without the board’s approval.

Due to her worsening health, BNP has suspended all programmes for the month of December, he said. The party also urged the nation to pray for her recovery.

Rizvi requested party leaders, activists, and the public not to gather in front of the hospital, noting that large crowds can disrupt medical procedures.

“We urge everyone to avoid gathering outside the hospital. Pray from wherever you are,” he said.

He added that BNP leaders are in regular communication with her medical team, and all updates on her condition are being provided directly by the board.

The 81-year-old former premier has long been suffering from multiple chronic health complications, including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis, and kidney problems. She was rushed to Evercare Hospital on 23 November after experiencing respiratory distress. Earlier, she was admitted on 15 October for one day of routine examinations.

Earlier this year, on 7 January, Khaleda Zia travelled to London for advanced medical treatment. After spending 117 days there, she returned home on 6 May and continued regular follow-up care at Evercare Hospital.
