Khaleda Zia’s personal doctor Dr AZM Zahid on Wednesday night said that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is getting the best medical care in the ICU of Evercare Hospital.

Dr Zahid talked to reporters outside the hospital and said that Khaleda Zia is still getting the treatment she needs from doctors.

He told everyone not to pay attention to any rumours on social media about her health and that “She is taking the treatment and she is responding as she did in the past.”

Dr Zahid said that doctors from both the country and abroad are working together to make sure that the former prime minister gets the best possible care. He said, “In medical terms, she is responding to the treatment being given.”

He said that last Friday, there was a plan to fly Khaleda Zia to the UK for more advanced care, and an air ambulance set up by the Emir of Qatar was supposed to take her to London.

The doctor, on the other hand, said this wasn’t possible because the air ambulance was having technical issues and Khaleda wasn’t healthy enough to fly at that time.

Dr Zahid said that the medical board, which is made up of experts from Bangladesh and other countries, is working to make sure that Khaleda Zia gets all of the treatment she needs at Evercare Hospital.

He said that if necessary, she could still be taken overseas, but he could not say when that would happen. “That date can’t be given yet.”

Khaleda Zia has been getting care at Evercare Hospital since November 23. On November 27, she was moved to the Critical Care Unit because she had several problems with her health.

Her treatment is being watched by a medical board led by Professor Shahabuddin Talukder, a cardiologist, and including experts from Bangladesh, the UK, the US, and China.

Since coming back to Dhaka, her daughter-in-law, Dr Zubaida Rahman, has been going to the medical board’s meetings in person.
