On Thursday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged all party leaders and activists to unite ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
"The upcoming election will not be an Awami League election; rather, it will be completely neutral. "We must earn the people's love, win their hearts, and bring them to the polling stations," he stated.
He went on to say, "This is not the time to think about who did or did not receive a nomination; rather, the main responsibility now is to convey the message of the party and the leader to the public."
Fakhrul spoke at the city's Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) Convention Hall on the fourth day of the BNP's seven-day 'Plan for Nation Building' programme.
He stated, "We have the opportunity to create new leadership through the upcoming election." We will form a representative parliament with the people, guiding the country in a new direction. And it will be led by our leader, Tarique Rahman."
He reminded the party workers of their long history of struggle, saying, "The struggle of the last 15 years makes today's fight the most important and difficult. Vested interest groups are attempting to derail this fight, so we must advance it with a united front."
He stated that Tarique Rahman's plan for national development and state-building is a one-of-a-kind example in Bangladeshi politics.
"BNP activists are being informed about what will be done prior to the election and what work will be carried out for the people, and this message must be communicated to the people," he added.
Fakhrul mentioned that the BNP is always a 'forward-looking' party, saying, "The multi-party democracy established by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, along with reforms such as press freedom, judiciary independence, and the creation of overseas labour markets, are the foundation of the country's progress." Similarly, Begum Khaleda Zia implemented a wide range of reforms, including modernising the country's economy, empowering women, and expanding education.
The BNP Secretary General also stated that despite being abroad for the past 15-16 years, the party's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has remained with the activists, transforming the BNP into a powerful political organisation.
He stated that after 'Deshnetri' Begum Khaleda Zia was imprisoned, Tarique Rahman organised the party from afar, provided guidance, and communicated with the activists on a regular basis, encouraging them to keep moving forward.
Fakhrul expressed hope that if Tarique Rahman's vision for a new state is communicated to the people, they will embrace it. He stated that the time has come for Shaheed Zia and Begum Khaleda Zia's dreams to come true. As a result, all differences must be set aside in order to move forward with the goal of winning this election.
