Political parties and groups from all across Bangladesh have expressed their sorrow over the passing of Sharif Osman Hadi, a spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha. Hadi passed away on Wednesday when he was undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital.
The news of his passing was announced by Inqilab Mancha in a post on Facebook, which was published several days after Hadi was shot and seriously injured on December 12th. After the attack, he was transported by helicopter to Singapore to receive more modern medical care.
Tarique Rahman, the acting chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), expressed his “deeply saddened and heartbroken” response to the assassination, calling it a reminder of the toll that political violence takes.
Hadi was referred to as a “brave political activist and a fearless voice against injustice” by Rahman in a post that he made on Facebook. He stated that Hadi played a significant part in the defence of democratic values in the aftermath of the popular revolt that occurred in July. In addition, he demanded that an inquiry be conducted in a prompt and objective manner in order to have those involved brought to justice.
In addition, the Secretary General of the BNP, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, expressed profound sorrow at the passing of Hadi.
Hadi was a courageous character of the July movement, according to Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, who also referred to him as a “principled patriot who never compromised with injustice.” A message of sorrow was sent by him, in which he expressed that the nation has lost a bold voice and an idealistic crusader for a Bangladesh that is just and humanitarian.
In addition, the leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) paid their respects. Hadi was a significant player in the revolt that took place in July, according to the Party Convener Nahid Islam, who also stated that his sacrifice would continue to serve as a source of motivation for the nation.
Sarjis Alam, who is the Chief Organiser of the NCP for the northern region, has demanded that serious action be taken in response to the tragedy. He urged the interim government to ensure the repatriation of guilty individuals, whom he claimed were currently in India, in a post that he made on Facebook on the social media platform.
In Bangladesh, Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Muhammad Mamunul Haque and the Secretary General of the party issued a joint statement in which they expressed their sorrow over the passing of Hadi. The statement portrayed Hadi as a prominent voice against authoritarianism and claimed that the attack was an attempt to muzzle opposition against the government.
In addition, the Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim of Islami Andolan Bangladesh expressed his condolences and urged that all individuals engaged in the killing, including those who carried out the attacks, those who planned them, and those who instigated them, be brought to court without delay.
Despite the fact that investigations are still ongoing, the authorities have not yet made public their findings regarding the attack.
