BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has received a travel pass to return to Bangladesh, party sources have confirmed the news.
The development was disclosed on Friday by his daughter, Zaima Rahman, in a post on social media, in which she said her father had received the travel document earlier in the day.
A diplomatic source in London said the application for the travel pass had been submitted to the Bangladesh High Commission in the United Kingdom through a representative after the required forms were completed.
Tarique Rahman has previously expressed his intention to return to Bangladesh on December 25. He announced the date earlier this week while addressing a discussion organised by the BNP's UK chapter.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also confirmed the return date during a party briefing on 12 December.
According to Abdus Sattar, private secretary to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman will travel from London to Dhaka via Sylhet, accompanied by his daughter.
The aircraft carrying Tarique Rahman is expected to land in Dhaka shortly after 11:00am on 25 December.
