BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi expressed grave concern on Monday about the ongoing incidents of mob violence across the country, stating that the attacks carried out by unruly mobs pose a serious threat to humanity and democratic values.

He made these remarks to journalists after paying tribute at the late President Ziaur Rahman's shrine in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Monday morning, following an announcement by the Central Committee of the Jatiyatabadi Muktijuddher Projonmo.

Rizvi claimed that attacks are occurring one after the other across the country under various pretexts. He warned that if this trend continues, the country's democracy will not be strengthened. It will eventually destabilise society and stifle the growth of democratic culture.

He went on to say that the country's citizens had been denied the right to vote for 17 years. The public is now eager to vote, but a particular syndicate is working tirelessly to destroy that opportunity. Rizvi argued that such a malicious attempt should not be allowed to grow.

Mob justice is not only a symptom of lawlessness, but also a dangerous force that undermines the rule of law and fuels further violence, he stated.

Criticising fascist Sheikh Hasina, the BNP senior leader claimed that during the Awami League government's tenure, public funds were squandered by purchasing electricity from abroad at exorbitant prices under unfair agreements.

He claimed that the people's hard-earned money was treated as government property, allowing for looting.

During the event, Rizvi praised Engineer Ishraque Hossain, the newly formed committee's convener, saying he has set a brilliant example in the anti-fascist movement. He went on to say that today's leaders and activists are determined to protect the country's independence and sovereignty.
