Security measures have been enhanced along parts of the Dhaka–Aricha highway, particularly at Zia Udyan and the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar, in anticipation of a planned visit by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

According to Shariful Islam, the public relations officer of the BGB headquarters, law enforcement agencies, including members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), have been deployed in the area to uphold law and order.

As part of the programme, Tarique Rahman is anticipated to pay his respects at the grave of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman at Zia Udyan after Jumma prayers. He will subsequently honour the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar.

Tarique Rahman made his return to Bangladesh on Thursday morning, after spending nearly 17 years in exile overseas.

Upon his arrival, he conveyed his appreciation to interim chief adviser Muhammad Yunus for the security measures implemented during his return, according to party sources.

His return home attracted significant crowds, as thousands of party leaders, activists, and supporters assembled earlier in the day at the July 36 Expressway, also referred to as the 300-Foot Road, in Dhaka to greet him.

Officials pledged to uphold security protocols during Rahman's activities to ensure public safety.
