Political platform Inqilab Moncho has relocated its ongoing blockade from Shahbagh to the area near Aziz Super Market in central Dhaka, citing the anticipated arrival of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

The group lifted the blockade at Shahbagh at around 8:30am on Saturday, ending an overnight sit-in that began late Friday as part of a previously announced programme.

In a statement published on its official Facebook page, Inqilab Moncho said the decision to clear Shahbagh was taken to ensure smooth movement for Tarique Rahman, who is expected to visit the grave of Sharif Osman Hadi.

Sharif Osman Hadi died in a hospital in Singapore after sustaining gunshot injuries in Dhaka, according to party sources.

A spokesperson for Inqilab Moncho said the platform plans to return to Shahbagh once Tarique Rahman’s visit is completed.

Shahbagh, a key traffic and political hub in the capital, has frequently been the site of demonstrations, with blockades often causing significant disruption to commuters and businesses in the surrounding areas.

Authorities had not issued an immediate comment on the relocation of the protest.
