Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday visited the graves of 57 army officers who were martyred in the Pilkhana tragedy in 2009.

He paid homage at the graves of the 57 fallen army officers at the Banani Military Graveyard in the capital on Saturday afternoon.

Brigadier General (Rtd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam, Chief Security Officer of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Atikur Rahman Ruman, a member of ‘Amra BNP Paribar’ and the BNP Media Cell, Muhammad Belayet Hossain Mridha and Advocate Mehedul Islam Mehdi, Special Officers of the BNP Chairperson’s office and Dr Shah Muhammad Aman Ullah, Director of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF), were present, among others, at that time.

Fifty-seven army officers were martyred during the Pilkhana incident that took place on February 25 and 26 in 2009. Bangladesh lost 57 valiant army officers, including the then BDR Director General Major General Shakil Ahmed, in the tragedy.

Earlier, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman also visited the graves of his beloved younger brother Arafat Rahman Koko and his father-in-law, Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan, at the Banani graveyard in the capital.
