Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Imran Haider, paid a courtesy call on BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Friday, according to party officials.

The meeting took place at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan in the afternoon. BNP Media Cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan said the discussion began at around 4:30pm, while senior party leaders were present to receive the Pakistani envoy when he arrived shortly after 4:15pm.

Party sources said the two sides exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest, including ways to strengthen South Asian regional cooperation, expand trade and business ties, and further improve bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The High Commissioner had earlier expressed deep shock at the death of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia. On 30 December 2025, he visited the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office and signed the condolence book opened there to pay his respects.

Khaleda Zia was one of the most prominent figures in Bangladesh’s political history, and her death prompted expressions of sympathy from political leaders and diplomatic missions.
