BNP Standing Committee member and party-nominated candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, Mirza Abbas, has urged voters to remain calm and not respond to any form of provocation during the election period.

Speaking to residents while exchanging greetings in the Nayapaltan area of the capital on Wednesday, Mirza Abbas said some individuals were making inflammatory statements in violation of Election Commission rules.

“Many are issuing provocative remarks that go against the election code of conduct. I request voters not to pay attention to any kind of incitement,” he said.

He called on voters in his constituency to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with messages that could disrupt peace. Abbas said BNP activists were maintaining discipline and had committed to a peaceful approach throughout the election process.

“Our activists are alert, disciplined and peaceful. They will not respond to any provocation,” he said, adding that the Election Commission should closely monitor the situation.

The senior BNP leader also expressed concern about the overall law and order situation in the area, alleging that some candidates were deliberately making provocative statements to create unrest.

“They want an incident to occur. The code of conduct is being violated in several ways,” he said.

Mirza Abbas noted that he was not conducting any formal election campaign, saying his activities were limited to maintaining contact with local residents.

“We are not running a formal campaign. We are only staying in touch with the general public,” he said.

Raising concerns about postal ballot papers, Abbas claimed there were deliberate irregularities that required immediate attention from the Election Commission.

“What we are seeing on the postal ballots appears intentional. The Election Commission should address this urgently,” he said.

A large number of local BNP leaders, party activists and residents were present during the exchange of greetings in Nayapaltan in Dhaka.
